My close friend and partner in all things
birth related, Tracy is a rare gem. Owner
of
Gentle Expectations, Tracy is the only
Certified Birth Doula & Independent
Childbirth Educator in Southeast Texas.
Just give me a little time and I aim to
change that!

On January 11, 2008 I was fortunate to
serve as Tracy's doula for the home
waterbirth of her daughter Amelia.

As a mother of 4 beautiful and spirited
children and a Birth Doula since 2001,
Tracy comes to the table with a wealth of
experience and knowledge. Together she
and I host Healing Birth once a month. In
addition to Healing Birth, you'll see us
together regularly at seminars and
new/expectant parent fairs. Come say
hello to us!
As of January 2008, I became a
student of Childbirth
International. I am currently
working on the combined Birth
and Postpartum Doula
certification as well as the
Childbirth Educator Diploma.
So far it has been a harmonious
pairing with CBI. I not only feel
challenged by the curriculum,
but inspired.
I am a proud member of and advocate
for ICAN. Their emphasis is on
prevention, recovery and advocacy
which are paramount in their message.
When 1 out of 3 women are giving birth
via surgical means, there is a break in
communication, education and a serious
cause for alarm in our communities. I try
to promote ICAN's message whenever I
have the opportunity because it's
something I stand by wholeheartedly.
Mission Statement: To educate
and support all parents in raising
secure, joyful, and empathic
children in order to strengthen
families and create a more
compassionate world.

Fundamentally, this is the
parenting philosophy that my
ideals match the closest. I'm a
member of the local support
group and enjoy the online
message group as well.

As a supporting member of the
Association of Texas Midwives I
strive to promote the Midwifery
model of care whenever
applicable. My hope is to begin
training as a midwife with them
before the end of 2008.
As the only local maternal resource
organization in Southeast Texas, Whole
Mothering Center
offers an array of
invaluable bridges to cross the gaps between
peer support and professional maternity care
through their various endeavours. Those
include the monthly Whole Mothering Cafe,
which takes place the 2nd Thursday of the
month at the Log On Cafe in Beaumont. In
addition, they offer discussions groups,
local resource information and activities for
new & expectant parents and their families.

Amy Jones & Heather Thomas, the
founding mothers behind Whole Mothering
Center, are both passionate & dedicated to
serving expectant and new mothers as well
as their families. Both of them are DONA
trained doulas, currently working towards
Birth & Postpartum Doula certification.
